On December 11, the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Address Registry (LACNIC) opened its new offices in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Last Monday, December 11, at Rambla República de México 6125, on its intersection with 6 de Abril, the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Address Registry (LACNIC) opened the doors of its new headquarters in the city of Montevideo, Uruguay. Designed as a state-of-the-art technology centre and a meeting place for the region's Internet community, the new offices are housed in one of the traditional homes on the Carrasco neighbourhood avenues after an extraordinary restoration process that has represented more than one year of work.
The event, that took place at 7.00 pm, was attended by the Vice-President of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay, Rodolfo Nin Novoa and the President of ICANN, Mr. Paul Twomey, among other national political personalities as well as diplomatic representatives and representatives of other international organizations located in Montevideo and other countries.
Raúl Echeberría, in his capacity as Executive Director of this international organization said: "We want to share this moment and extend a very special invitation to representatives of international and regional Internet organizations such as ICANN, LACTLD, CLARA, CEPAL and ITU, as well as representatives of the Civil Society and, of course, our members and friends of the Internet community who make up LACNIC."
The new headquarters represent an investment of approximately 1,000,000 USD. The new offices are located on 1200 m2 premises and represent 450 m2 of construction.
LACNIC is an international non-profit organization, the main function of which is the administration of the Internet numbering resources allocated to Latin America and the Caribbean. Its goal is to achieve the responsible distribution of the available resources and ensure equal opportunity access on the part of all those interested and the inhabitants of the region.
