Yesterday, the Internet Society announced that ESLARED (Fundación Escuela Latinoamericana de Redes) was the 2008 recipient of the prestigious Jonathan B. Postel Service Award.

The award was established by the Internet Society to recognize and commemorate the extraordinary stewardship exercised by Jonathan B. Postel over the course of a thirty year career in networking. The award is presented to individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contributions in service to the data communications community.

It is a matter of pride that an organization of our region has received this remarkable distinction after 10 years of Jon Postel´s death.

ESLARED is identified within the community as the institution that organizes the WALC (Workshops on Internet networks for Latin America and the Caribbean) whose 11th edition was held from November 10th to 14th, 2008 in Mérida, Venezuela. Many members of the LAC community have participated as attendees as well as instructors in these workshops from the beginning. The distinction has a particular significance for LACNIC, since we have shared with ESLARED a close relationship of collaboration and support over the years.

We congratulate ESLARED for this remarkable distinction and share the gratifying news with the community.
