Conditions for Participating in the Contest

The Latin American and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry, LACNIC, motivated by its interest in encouraging the media and communications professionals to research, develop, and publish topics, news, and information that will contribute to the promotion of the Internet in Latin America and the Caribbean, has created an award for the best journalistic pieces in Press, Radio, Television and Digital Press format.

For this edition, the subject should be comprehended in the issue of Internet Governance within the context of the region, including, among others: Internet development, access, multilingualism, cybersecurity, critical Internet resources, privacy rights, accessibility, and emerging issues relating to the Internet.

General Terms:

This contest is open to all Latin American and Caribbean journalists providing services to regional media or international press agencies.

Journalists employed by or contractually bound with LACNIC are not eligible to participate.

Participation:

Participation is open to press, radio, television, or digital press journalists whose work aims at researching, publishing, and communicating information that will help improve Internet development within the region.

Conditions:

  1. Individual or collective entries will be accepted.
  2. Entries may be submitted in Spanish, English or Portuguese.
  3. Entries must have been published or broadcast between 1st March, 2009, and 31 March, 2010.

Formats:

Press:

News or Narrative Genres

In addition to complying with the general terms and conditions, contestants must attach the original copy of their publication in printed or digital format.

Radio:

News or Narrative Genres

In addition to complying with the general terms and conditions, contestants must attach a CD recording of the program or submit a digital file containing the segment or program that was broadcast.

Television:

News or Narrative Genres

In addition to complying with the general terms and conditions, contestants must attach a videotape or DVD recording of the program that was broadcast or submit it in the form of a digital file.

Digital Press:

News or Narrative Genres

In addition to complying with the general requirements, contestants must attach the URL of the Internet webpage or portal where the piece was published and a digital copy of the piece.

Under no circumstances will an entire portal or website be admitted, but rather a piece published on said portal or website.

The jury will also value the inclusion of links relating to the issue under discussion within body of the submitted news piece or interview.

About Genres:

For all purposes of this contest, New Genres include: News items, Reports, News Follow-Ups, Informative Interviews and Investigations. Narrative Genres include: Features, Reports and In-Depth Interviews.


Jury:

The jury will be made up by three members whose names will be made public in due time. The jury’s decision shall be final, and its members are authorized to solve any situation not anticipated in these conditions, including the possibility of declaring void any of the categories.

Entries may be presented until 12 May, 2010.

The results will be published during the month of June, 2010.

The organizers will hold the rights to the winning entries, in the understanding that the amount of the prize covers copyright.

Participation in this contest implies full acceptance of and agreement with these conditions.

Prizes:

Entries will be judged in two categories:

  1. Press and Digital Press;
  2. Radio and Television.

 It will be awarded one general prize, plus prizes per category.

First General Prize:

  1. LACNIC Recognition.
  2. b. Travel expenses and participation in the “Regional Preparatory Meeting of the IGF” to be held during the month of July, 2010, in the city of Quito, Ecuador.
  3. A cash prize of US$ 2.000.

Prize for each Category:

All winning entries will be published by LACNIC on its website.
