Last Monday, January 17, Dr. Steve Crocker visited the LACNIC office in Montevideo.
This visit was a great opportunity to share his knowledge and experience on topics such as the future of the Internet and the main computer security challenges that are being faced on the Internet at company, user and government level with technicians, local experts and foreign specialists working in Uruguay.
In the summer of 1969, Dr. Crocker, a native of Pasadena, California, was one of the creators of Arpanet, a file transfer and communication network linking different physical locations of United States universities that would later evolve into the Internet. Since then, Dr. Crocker has been permanently working towards Internet development. This World Wide Web communications and security pioneer chairs the Security and Stability Advisory Committee (SSAC) since its creation and is currently Vice-Chair of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) Board of Directors.
In the afternoon, another activity was organized jointly with AGESIC (Uruguay's National Agency for the Development of e-Government and the Information Society). This activity took place at the seat of the Uruguayan Presidency, where Dr. Crocker held a conference for local authorities involved in the sector and media representatives.
