An Open Statement from LACNIC to the Community

Yesterday, United Domains Inc., an ICANN accredited registrar, announced on its website that it would begin pre-registration under the .LAC domain, suggesting that LACNIC is involved in and supports this initiative.

In view of this situation, LACNIC, the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry, would like to clarify:

LACNIC has already taken the necessary measures, notifying ICANN of this situation and demanding that United Domains remove our logo and confused information from their website. We hope that the afore mentioned company will issue the corresponding clarifications regarding this situation within the next few hours.

LACNIC will continue to analyze the legal responsibilities arising from this improper and unauthorized use of our name and logo.

We would also like to take this opportunity to reiterate our support of the project led by eCOM-LAC for the creation of the .LAT domain, a project in which LACNIC has no specific role other than that of supporting the initiative as is the case with many other organizations of our region.
