Since I began my relation with the CCIT and NAP Colombia, I have been in contact with LACNIC and have actively participated in several of their initiatives. For example, we jointly organized a Training Day in Bogotá in October 2003; I participated as a presenter in the NAPLA 2003 sessions in Buenos Aires and the NAPLA 2004 sessions in Sao Paulo, before LACNIC was in charge of their organization, and in the LACNIC VIII/ NAPLA 2005 event held in Lima.
In January 2005, through the CCIT, NAP Colombia and NAP Peru, I promoted the initiative to invite Jordi Palet to present conferences in Colombia and Peru on the topic of IPv6; these conferences served as a starting point for what was later called the IPv6 Tour that since then LACNIC has organized every year. Likewise, I organized the launching of the IPv6 Task Force for Colombia.
I am personally acquainted both with the current President as well as the current Vice-President of the Board of Directors and, should I be elected, I will be able to relate with the Board of Directors team quickly and easily. It is the first time an individual from Colombia is nominated to participate in an election for designating a position on the Board of Directors, a fact of which I am very proud.
I hope I will be able to bring renovation and new ideas to the new Board of Directors. I believe that at LACNIC level there is yet much to do in relation to IPv6. In the near future LACNIC will also be facing an enormous challenge – that of absorbing the responsibilities as Brazilian registry, and this challenge will require the efforts of the Board of Directors and of the organization as a whole. Likewise, LACNIC must create a presence and take action in all the countries of the region, some of which have not yet benefited from the activities, nor the projects and investments that LACNIC carries out within the region.
Finally, I would like to express to the potential electors my personal interest in the matter of Internet Governance. A few weeks ago we received Raul Echeberría of LACNIC and Harmut Glaser of CGI Brazil (and member of the current LACNIC Board of Directors) in Bogotá at a national event on Internet Governance organized by NAP Colombia. This, in my opinion, is one of the issues that should be tackled at Board of Directors level in order to consolidate LACNIC's leadership within the region.
