Hartmut Glaser

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Sao Paulo (USP), 1967;
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the School of Engineering (Escola Politécnica) of the University of Sao Paulo (USP), 1973;
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the School of Engineering of the University of Sao Paulo (USP) from 1973 to 1975.

Academic Activities:

Professor of General and Experimental Physics at the Physics Institute of the USP from 1968 to 1970;
Professor of Electronics at the School of Engineering of the USP since 1970.

Professional Activities:

Financial/Administrative director of the Microelectronics Laboratory of the School of Engineering of the USP, from 1972 to 1990;
Head of Staff / Advisor to the Director of the School of Engineering of the USP, from 1989 to 1994;
Coordinator of the Program Technological Modernization of the Administrative Software at the University of Sao Paulo, Rector's Office, from 1994 to 1996;
Advisor to the Director-President of the FAPESP Foundation (Foundation for the Defense of Research within the State of Sao Paulo, according to its Portuguese acronym) from 1996 to 2004;
Coordinator of the Sao PauloState Academic Network at FAPESP - Sao Paulo Academic Network Project (ANSP Network), from 1996 to 2002;
Advisor to the President of FAPESP since 2004;
Director of NIC.br since 1996;
Founder and Director of LACNIC, from 2000 to 2006;
Consultant on Telecommunications, Computer Science and Internet projects since 1975;
Advisor within the fields of Events in Microelectronics, Software, ICTs, e-GOV since 1985.

Personal Statement:

I participated in all negotiations with ICANN, during the entire organizational phase and until LACNIC's official recognition. After its creation, I actively participated in the transition of all ARIN operations to LACNIC, organization that during this period of intense labor and great challenges became operational and achieved stability.

Now we are facing a new cycle of growth, most importantly because of the technological innovations available on the market, such as WIMAX, VoIP, the increase in the use of broad band technologies and most of all because of the implementation of the new IPv6 protocol. These technologies imply a great expansion of the Internet within our region, and LACNIC must be mature enough to respond to the new demand.

Because of the experience I have acquired both in the management of NIC.br as well as during LACNIC's installation phase, I am eager to participate in these new challenges that we would like to see implemented in Latin America and the Caribbean.

O trabalho do Prof. Glaser junto ao Lacnic, desde sua implantação, tem sido decisivo para a sucesso desta entidade regional, da qual depende a eficiência e adequação das alocações IP na América Latina e Caribe. Consideramos muito importante a continuidade de um trabalho tão bem sucedido.
