Eldert Louisa holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Information Technology. Mr. Eldert Louisa started his career in the internet community fresh out of university designing applications. Later he moved to the Telecommunications Industry where he has being laboring until today. He has more than 15 years of experience in the telecommunication industry and has held various positions in this evolving industry. Mr. Eldert Louisa has been with the TelEm Group and SMITCOMS for the last 11 years where he held both management and senior roles within these organizations. For the last 10 months he has been in the position of managing director a.i. at SMITCOMS after the resignation of the previous managing director. Mr. Eldert Louisa was a major contributor in helping developing the TelEm Group and SMITCOMS into a full-fledged telecom provider in the Netherlands Antilles and in particular the island of St. Maarten. Recently Mr. Eldert Louisa has been appointed as the Chief Technical Officer (CTO) for the St. Maarten Telecommunication Operating Company (TelEm Group) as a consequence of the merger between the two island government companies, TelEm Group (Mobile carrier, PSTN & Internet provider) and SMITCOMS (international carrier). The plan is to change the companies from a technical driven company into a customer oriented company by providing better QoS to the customers. The focus will be in reducing the operational cost and make the new company more lean and mean to successfully phase the island competition. Beside that Mr. Eldert Louisa is also chairman of the non-profit organization, Open Caribbean Internet eXchange (OCIX), a project initiated by SMITCOMS with the aimed to bridge the “digital divide” between the world and Eastern Caribbean Region and St. Maarten in particular.
Internet is becoming the most important pillar in any economy and with this in mind Mr. Eldert Louisa wants to play his role as a contributor in promoting and evoking the importance of the internet business for the Caribbean Region. Even though the Caribbean Region does realize the importance of the internet business, it is still lack behind the developed countries and this create a serious problem for the region especially due to the high cost of the international circuit for internet connectivity and other factors. Mr. Eldert Louisa is looking forward as a board member to work along with the LACNIC organization and particular the other Caribbean Islands to bring about:
