The organization responsible for administrating Internet addresses in Latin America and the Caribbean doubled its membership in the past two years

Buenos Aires, October 2011. In the past two years, the Latin American and the Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry (LACNIC) doubled its membership; this month it reached 2,000 members, announced the organization's Executive Director, Raúl Echeberría, during his speech at LACNIC XVI ? the annual meeting of regional Internet operators and experts that is being held this week in the city of Buenos Aires.

This significant growth is the result of the efforts of LACNIC and its staff to meet the Internet requirements of the region. LACNIC’s 2,000 members include the major companies and organizations providing access services in Latin America and the Caribbean. “This fills us with pride”, highlighted Raúl Echeberría.

LACNIC has been operating in the continent for nine years and has become a solid, stable organization that devotes much energy to continually improving its services to better serve its members “We are committed to providing more and better services to the region”, highlighted LACNIC's Executive Director.

LACNIC also conducts numerous activities and projects in support of Internet development within the region. “Since its creation, we always knew that, in addition to properly administrating IP addresses, LACNIC should also be a catalyst for Internet development in Latin America and the Caribbean. Today we have achieved this goal and feel that the work we have done is rewarded by the community's recognition, said Oscar Messano, President of LACNIC's Board of Directors.

“We want LACNIC to continue to be an organization that synthesizes the collective efforts of the regional Internet community in benefit of the development of our society”, concluded Raúl Echeberría.

LACNIC is the organization responsible for assigning and administrating IP addresses and related resources (Autonomous System Numbers and Reverse Resolution) for the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. It is one of the five Regional Internet Registries that exist at global level.
