LACNIC, the Latin American and Caribbean Internet Address Registry, and SUPERTEL, Ecuador's Telecommunications Superintendent, are pleased to announce the agreement to hold the LACNIC XVII meeting in the city of Quito, Ecuador, on 6-11 May 2012.
This year, Latin America and the Caribbean's most important Internet event will visit Ecuador for the first time, bringing relevant discussions and major technical forums closer to the Ecuadorian community.
LACNIC XVII will set the stage for a meeting of the most important telecommunications companies and Internet service providers, as well as professionals, members of academia, government officials, and civil society representatives, who during their visit to Quito will be able to contribute to the discussions on key topics relating to the operation of the Internet within the region.
LACNIC XVII will undoubtedly be an event not to be missed.

- The Latin American and Caribbean Internet Address Registry is an international non-profit organization made up by more than 1700 member organizations and it is responsible for allocating and administrating IP addresses and other related resources for the region of Latin America and the Caribbean. It is one of the five Regional Registries that exist worldwide. Its vision of collaborating and articulating initiatives for Internet development and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean expresses the feeling of the community that promoted its creation.
About SUPERTEL
- SUPERTEL has been established by law as the Ecuadorian Technical Control Organization and, among other aspects, it is responsible for controlling and monitoring the radio-electric spectrum, overseeing operators that exploit telecommunications services, ensuring that the concession contracts granted for exploiting telecommunications services are complied with, and controlling the proper application of the tariffs approved by CONATEL. SUPERTEL's competences and attributions include coordinating with other countries, international technical cooperation organizations, higher education organizations, and non-government organizations in the field of telecommunications and radio and television broadcasting in order to obtain technical assistance for the organization and supervise its compliance.
